If you're thinking about selling your static caravan, one of the first questions you'll probably ask is:

“How much is my static caravan actually worth?”

It's also one of the most common questions we're asked at Static Trader.

Unfortunately, there isn't a simple price list.

Two static caravans of the same age and model can have very different values depending on their condition, location, specification and the cost involved in collecting them.

There's also one important thing every owner needs to understand:

The price you paid, the price your caravan could sell for on its holiday park, and its off-site trade value can be three completely different figures.

Here's why.

The 3 Different Static Caravan Values

1. The Price You Originally Paid

If you bought your caravan through a holiday park, the original purchase price wasn't necessarily the value of the physical caravan alone.

The price can reflect the park, pitch, facilities, location, preparation, commercial margin and other elements associated with buying a holiday home on that particular site.

This is why owners are sometimes shocked when they come to sell.

A caravan originally purchased for £40,000, £50,000 or more isn't automatically worth anything close to that figure as an off-site caravan several years later.

2. On-Site Value

A caravan can potentially be worth considerably more when it's sold on its existing pitch.

The buyer isn't simply buying a caravan – they're buying the opportunity to enjoy it at that particular holiday park, subject to the park's terms.

That's why looking online and finding the same model advertised on a holiday park isn't necessarily a good indication of what yours is worth for removal.

You're comparing two different markets.

3. Off-Site or Trade Value

If a caravan is being bought for removal, the calculation changes again.

The buyer has to consider the value of the caravan after costs such as disconnection, collection and transport. At Static Trader we take care of the collection and transportation costs on our end.

If it's a twin-unit lodge, there may also be costs associated with splitting, sheeting and moving two separate sections.

This is why an off-site offer can appear much lower than an on-site advertised price.

It doesn't necessarily mean somebody is trying to undervalue your caravan.

What Determines the Value of My Static Caravan?

When we're valuing a caravan, we consider several things.

Year – Generally, newer caravans command stronger prices, but age isn't everything.

Make and model – Certain manufacturers, layouts and models are more desirable in the second-hand market.

Size – A 28ft caravan and a 42ft caravan are completely different propositions, particularly when transport is involved.

Bedrooms and layout – Two and three-bedroom caravans appeal to different buyers.

Condition – Damp, leaks, soft floors, damaged furniture, peeling kitchen doors and alterations can all affect value.

Specification – Double glazing, central heating and other desirable features can make a difference.

Location – This is a big one.

A fantastic caravan can still be expensive to buy if it's hundreds of miles from its likely next destination.

Transport isn't free, and those costs have to form part of any genuine trade valuation.

Don't Assume Your Caravan Is Worthless Because It's Old

We regularly speak to owners who start the conversation with:

“It's probably too old for you.”

Don't make that decision for us.

Older caravans can still have a market, particularly if they're clean, dry and in good condition.

Equally, being relatively new doesn't automatically make a caravan highly valuable.

Send us the details and let us take a look.

It costs nothing to ask.

Does Decking Increase My Caravan's Value?

This depends on how you're selling it.

Decking can be extremely desirable when a caravan is being sold on its existing holiday park pitch.

For an off-site sale, however, it's different.

Decking has to be dismantled, transported and potentially altered to fit somewhere else. In many cases, it may therefore add little or no value to an off-site trade offer.

If your caravan is on a holiday park, it's worth asking whether the park would buy the decking separately.

Why Does Location Affect My Offer?

Imagine two identical caravans in identical condition.

One is easily accessible and located close to where there's strong demand.

The other requires a long-distance collection and expensive transport.

Those two caravans may not receive identical offers.

That's because we're not simply asking:

“What is this caravan worth?”

We're also calculating:

“What will it cost to get this caravan safely to its next owner?”

Having genuine transport experience means we can assess those costs realistically.

Will Cleaning My Caravan Increase Its Value?

Presentation certainly helps.

You don't need to spend hundreds of pounds preparing a caravan for us, but a clean and tidy caravan is easier to assess and generally more appealing.

Before taking your valuation photographs:

  • Open the curtains and blinds.
  • Remove unnecessary clutter.
  • Make the beds.
  • Clear kitchen worktops.
  • Take photographs during daylight.
  • Photograph every room.
  • Include several exterior photographs.

Most importantly, don't hide damage.

If there's damp, a leak, damaged furniture or a soft floor, tell us.

An accurate valuation depends on accurate information.

Want to Know What Your Static Caravan Is Worth?

You don't need to guess.

Send Static Trader:

  • Make and model
  • Year
  • Size
  • Number of bedrooms
  • Caravan location
  • Interior and exterior photographs
  • Details of any damage, damp or known problems
  • When the caravan is available

We'll take a look and let you know whether it's something we're interested in buying.

There's no obligation to sell simply because you've asked us for a valuation.

Already Had an Offer From Your Holiday Park?

Send us that too.

Sometimes we may be able to offer more.

Sometimes, once all the costs are considered, the park's offer may actually be the better deal.

If that's the case, we'd rather be straightforward with you.

The important thing is that you understand your options before making your decision.

Why Choose Static Trader?

We've spent many years buying, selling and transporting static caravans throughout the UK.

That matters when valuing a caravan.

We're not simply looking at its age and guessing a number.

We understand the second-hand market, the costs involved in collection and transport, and what different caravans are realistically selling for.

Some caravans we purchase come back to us. Others are sold directly to their next owner, helping reduce unnecessary transport costs and allowing us to keep our prices competitive.
