How To Keep a Static Caravan Cool in The Summer
The British summer can be unpredictable but there can be times when your static will start to feel the heat! Here we bring you our tips to help you keep your cool when hot weather hits. As the UK is approaching our summer months and hopefully the sun is on its way, it’s essential to do everything you can to stay cool this summer, especially if you’re taking time out to enjoy a static caravan holiday.
Static Trader has put together here some tips on how to keep your static caravan cool in summer, which can make a big difference to enjoying those blissful summer days and nights in your static caravan.
Tips for Keeping Your Caravan Cool in the Summer
- Encourage Air Flow
Your first line of defence when the temperature rises is to promote as much airflow inside your caravan as possible. There are a number of small desktop fans on the market which can be effective at circulating the air. Another option is to invest in either a portable air conditioning unit or have one fitted to the roof or wall to help cool the inside of the static caravan. The benefit of a portable air conditioning unit or cooler is that it can be moved from room to room.
- Utilise Window & Curtains
Depending on where your static caravan is positioned, it will no doubt have a sunny side and a shady side at different times of the day. When the sun ‘s blazing down, on the caravan’s shady side open the windows and on the sunny side close curtains or blinds to reduce the heat of the sun. By keeping blinds and curtains in your caravan down on the sunny side, you can keep the rays of the sun out and help keep the air inside the caravan cooler. It’s a simple trick, but it can make a big difference in how your caravan feels inside.
- Insulate Your Static Caravan
You may think that insulation is only useful during the cold winter months, but it is just as valuable during summer. In the hotter months, proper insulation will help keep cool air inside your static caravan while preventing heat from getting in. These days, many newer static caravans are built with proper insulation. But if you have an older static caravan then make sure you invest in some proper insulation in both the roof and the walls of the caravan.
- Spend as Much Time Outside
Try to set up some outside space in the shade with a patio umbrella or even a gazebo – that way you’ll be able to retreat outdoors if it’s too stuffy and hot inside your static caravan. Obviously not in the midday hours, when the heat in the street is unbearable, but in the afternoon or when it is getting dark.
- Cook Outside
If you have a terrace, take advantage of it to cook on the barbecue, it will always be better to do it outdoors than in the kitchen. Indoor ovens and stovetops can quickly make any caravan feel stuffy, so it’s best to cook outdoors as much as possible when you’re camping during summer. If you do have to cook inside your caravan, then make sure to leave your doors and windows open so the heat from cooking won’t get trapped inside.
- Electrical Appliances
Keep lights, laptops, televisions and other appliances switched off as much as possible as they obviously generate heat. Also, consider how often you need to use hair-dryers and other hair appliances since not using them will keep you cooler. As well as keeping the light of, you should also consider making the switch to LED lighting from Halogen and incandescent bulbs, which are known to produce a fair amount of heat when they’re in use.
- Remove Bedding
If you want to make sure you are cooler at night and be able to rest and relax while in bed, we’d highly recommend embracing cotton sheets and a light, summer duvet in favour of space-saving sleeping bags to help you get a restful night. Getting rid of your duvet and replacing with cool cotton sheets will help you to have a better night’s sleep.
- Drink Plenty of Water
This goes without saying but staying hydrated is really important in hot weather. Make sure you drink plenty of water, you can even try ice-cold water or fruit juice, and stay alert to feelings of dehydration such as a dry mouth and feeling lightheaded or dizzy.
