Static Caravan Becomes Ideal Solution For Rising Housing Market
A couple in Reading, Berkshire who have been struggling to buy their first house have turned to buying a static caravan instead, after their seller backed out leaving them stranded. Harriet Sutton, 26, an Operations manager and her partner, Alex, 26, a car storage owner, have been desperately searching for a home in the UKs current overpriced and extremely competitive housing market, so they made the decision to buy a static caravan instead.
After a brief search Harriet Sutton and her partner Alex bought a slightly shabby static caravan for cheap as the inside needed a bit of TLC. They then got the static caravan transported to Alex’s family farm and easily managed to get planning permission from their local authority so that they could live full time in the static caravan on the farm.
They then invested £4,000 transforming it into a stylish home which they are now living in. After doing it up the static caravan now looks much more stylish and worlds apart from when they got it.
Harriet in a statement to The Sun newspaper said:
“We originally started searching for a house in 2019, we’d found what we thought would be our first home together and then right at the last minute the seller pulled out and we were left without a place to call our own. We had a budget of £300k for the house and after the disappointment of losing out on a house at the last minute the search became even more tedious, we were just getting outbid every time and could find nothing in our budget. When we found the static caravan we came to terms with the fact we needed somewhere to live and it would be the best option and a great adventure renovating it. We are still looking at houses but this renovation has been such a joyful experience and we have definitely both learnt new skills.”
The couple successfully renovated their static caravan and managed to transform it from being tired looking used static caravan to a modern sleek looking pad. Speaking about the renovation process they carried on their newly acquired static caravan, Harriet went on to say:
“We ripped all the furniture out and the shower room, made it a one larger bedroom instead of two small ones, painted the kitchen, replaced the worktop and put in a new cooker, new shower tray, enclosure, toilet and sink and new flooring throughout and tied it all together we installed a log burner.”
The couple are planning to use their new static caravan home as a temporary home until while they consider their options on buying a new house. They said that when they finally do buy a house, they will either sell the caravan for a tidy profit or buy some land in Cornwall and place the caravan on it to make it their own little holiday home.
