Willerby Celebrates 75 Years in Caravan Industry
One of Britain’s biggest manufacturers of holiday homes, Willerby, celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary in 2022. To mark the occasion, Willerby has unveiled a new entry-level lodge, created with affordability in mind and designed to appeal to families who are buying a holiday home with input from more than one generation. Named the Hayward, layout options include one with four bedrooms.
Willerby has a fascinating manufacture origin. In the 1940s, at the time when the leisure industry was just beginning to rise, Walter Allen was making beehives in the East Yorkshire village of Willerby. He saw an opportunity, as demand for holiday caravans was just beginning to emerge, and switched to building caravans, setting the foundation for the empire that is Willerby today. Willerby is proud of its heritage; one of the first, tiny touring caravans was called the Vogue and that name is still used today – for a luxury holiday home. As the company switched from making touring caravans to statics, and demand began to rise, the company moved to its present site in Hull.
Today, the company makes 13 holiday homes, five holiday lodges, plus five homes in the Willerby Bespoke range of park homes and lodges. The company has a 90-acre manufacturing site and also has three showgrounds, two in England and one in Scotland.
This year (2022) Willerby has been named Manufacturer of the Year in a prestigious awards ceremony. Willerby was honoured at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards, one of the most celebrated events of its kind in the North of England. Recognising Willerby’s significant influence on the holiday homes industry, the awards judges said: “From sustainability to sharing best practices, Willerby set a gold standard for excellence in its field. It’s also a great corporate neighbour, sharing its skills base throughout the industry.”
